Family research trip to the Ed "Big Daddy" Roth exhibit

Ed "Big Daddy" Roth was one of the most creative, and eccentric car builders to make it mainstream. His influences on the Kustom Kulture world still influence modern day builders and artists alike. Some of his iconic builds are on display at the Corvette Museum of in Bowling Green, KY, and it is a worthwhile trip for anyone who appreciates the history behind our industry.

Rat Fink on display!

My children have been anxious to learn about my work, which I'm fortunate to say is also my hobby, for years. Well we had a stroke of good luck in that the Corvette Museum brought in a huge homage to Big Daddy Roth! We loaded up the car and headed over the first Saturday we could make the trip, and we where not disappointed! Toys, artwork, cars, and plenty of learning material, even including one of Ed's original screen press machines.

We spent hours going over each of the cars, admiring the level of attention to detail, and the creative use of metal, paint, and fiberglass. The combination of creativity, craftsmanship, and mechanical utility, shows not only was Ed a great designer, but mechanically sound. This is something we all know, but the chance to see, and appreciate it in person makes his work more tangible, and gives you a whole new angle to appreciate it.

Give this place a visit!

We had a blast, and I guarantee if you appreciate, or want to learn more about the history of our culture you will be blown away at the effort this museum went through to make this a good show.
